JOIN US for a DRY CRUISE!
An interactive training workshop

NEW!!! Dry Cruise Workshop programme (as of 2 September 2010).

Sunday 10 October 2010, 8:30 - 17:00

Workshop Conveners: Alberto Piola and Cyndy Chandler

How can we tell that climate is changing? Answer: because we have data going back a century and more - and because someone made the effort to record, calibrate and then preserve these data long after the project (and funding) were gone. Nobody questions that scientists must publish, so why is organizing data the poor relation?  IMBER seeks to change this ethos and recommends that all projects appoint a Data Integration Scientist, emphasising the benefits to both the project investigators and the appointee.

IMBER has developed a Data Management Cookbook which summarizes the best practices policy for data acquisition, quality control and preservation. The Data Management Cookbook will be the focus of an interactive training activity to be carried out during a one day session on 10 October 2010 prior to IMBIZO II.

The objectives of this workshop are to enhance awareness of the need to establish data management procedures, the advantages arising from following these procedures, and to provide hands-on training on data management and data preservation.

Young scientists are encouraged to participate in this training workshop. We also welcome the attendance of data managers of IMBER endorsed projects.

Welcome on board for a “dry cruise”!
