About the Conference

This conference continues the occassional series of scholarly conferences on hockey begun at Saint Mary's University (Halifax, Nova Scotia) in 2001 and hosted most recently in 2007 by the University of Victoria (Victoria, British Columbia). The conference is designed to be a congenial gathering of people interested in hockey from a variety of points of view, including academics from a number of different disciplines, writers, ex- and current players and coaches, people involved in the business of hockey, and lovers of the game.

Speakers

Paul Kelly

The conference's keynote speaker is Paul Kelly, currently the Executive Director of College Hockey Inc., a newly formed entity whose mission is to raise the profile of U.S. College Hockey. Prior to this post, Kelly served as the Executive Director of the National Hockey League Players' Association.  More...

Larry Playfair

Larry Playfair will deliver a luncheon address at the conference. A professional hockey player for 12 seasons, Playfair now serves as President of the Buffalo Sabres Alumni Association, an organization active in charitable causes in Niagara region. He has been active as a youth hockey coach and promoter of the game, on both sides of the Canadian-American border.  More...

The conference organizing committee invites individuals to participate in the conference as a conference delegate, presenter or sponsor.

  • Presenters and Other Participants - While the deadline for the Call for Abstracts has passed (December 10, 2009), the conference committee encourages further submissions and is willing to consider additional paper and panel proposals for the conference. The conference committee wishes to include as many interested participants as possible, and will welcome especially those who would like to serve as session chairs or commentators.
