The Integrated Marine Biogeochemistry and Ecosystem Research (IMBER) is a decade-long international project, co-sponsored by the Scientific Committee for Oceanographic Reasearch (SCOR) and the International Geosphere-Biosphere Program (IGBP). The vision of IMBER is to provide a comprehensive understanding of, and accurate predictive capacity for, ocean responses to accelerating global change and the consequent effects on the Earth System and human society.
In 2004, The Land-Ocean Interactions in the Coastal Zone (LOICZ) entered a second phase co-sponsored by IGBP and the International human Dimension Program (IHDP) in recognition to the comprehensive integration of human dimensions into its research directions. The primary objective of LOICZ is to provide the knowledge, understanding and prediction needed to allow coastal communities to assess, anticipate and respond to the interaction of global change and local pressures which determines coastal change.
